I stage of the Competition

Łukasz Nagórka – pianist, accompanist-pianist, pedagogue. Graduate of the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw in the piano class of Professor Anna Jastrzębska- Quinn. He also studied at the Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst in Vienna. Winner of competitions and piano festivals on a national and international scale. He has given concerts in Italy, Spain, Germany and Austria. Since 2014, he has been working as a lecturer at the Faculty of Composition, Conducting and Music Theory of the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music.

Misato Tokuda – pianist, born in 1990 in Kyoto. She began her education in Japan, where in 2009 she graduated from Hamamatsu Gakugei High School and then continued her studies at the Tokyo College of Music. In 2010 she began her studies at the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw in the piano class of Professor Bronisława Kawalla and chamber music class of Professor Maja Nosowska. She is the winner of the second prize at the Young Artist Piano Competition in Japan and the silver medalist of the International Chopin Piano Competition in Asia in Tokyo. Her concert activity is two-way: solo and chamber music. In the first one, one should note her participation in monographic concerts at the Academy, devoted to the works of Schumann, Liszt and Szymanowski. In chamber music she accompanies many outstanding soloists. She perfected her pianistic artistry during master classes in Poland and Spain, with professors such as Pavel Gililov, Stanislav Pochekin and Wojciech Kocyan.

II stage of the Competition

The orchestra was founded in 2017 and includes students of the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw and the most talented students of Warsaw’s second-grade music schools. Among the members of the orchestra there are also finalists and laureates of the prestigious Young Musician of the Year competition. The orchestra’s repertoire includes traditional American marches, as well as hits of classical, pop and film music. The ensemble performed in the Chamber Hall of the National Polish Radio Symphony Orchestra in Katowice, Częstochowa Philharmonic and numerous cultural centres in the Mazowieckie Voivodeship. The artistic director of the orchestra is French horn player Dariusz Thieu Quang, and the conductor is Jarosław Praszczałek.

III stage of the Competition / Gala concert

Warsaw University of Life Sciences Representative Orchestra is an academic wind orchestra. It was founded in 2007 on the initiative of the students of the Warsaw University of Life Sciences. The orchestra consists of about 45 musicians. The core of the orchestra are students and graduates of WULS. A large group of the orchestra members consists of students from other Warsaw universities, as well as other musicians who sympathise with the ensemble. The rich sound of woodwind and brass instruments is complemented by electric and bass guitars, a drum section and a keyboard instrument.

The role of the Orchestra is to add splendour to the ceremonies taking place at the Warsaw University of Life Sciences, as well as to represent the University outside. The orchestra can be heard during various cultural events and stage concerts in Warsaw and beyond. It has played, among others, in the Roma Theatre and the Polski Theatre during the gala of Fryderyk’s Music Awards in 2017. The orchestra also takes part in national and international music festivals. In 2016 and 2018 it participated in the International Youth Band Festival in Sindos, Greece. In 2013 and 2018 Orchestra won the Grand Prix at the Mazovian Wind Orchestra Festival held in Warsaw. The band willingly participates in interesting music projects and creates original artistic programmes.
